CANOEING, KAYAKING, RAFTING
The Ovens and Buckland and other local rivers offer varied water for canoeing , kayaking or just floating down the river. Local operators can take you on a short trip down part of the calmer but interesting sections of the river or give you a day of instruction and excitement on a more challenging part. In the warmer months canoeing and kayaking tours are available, but need to be booked in advance.
Why not try a float down the river through the small canyon on your own lilo from Centenary Park Bright down stream in summer?
SWIMMING
The Ovens River is dammed at Bright and Porepunkah from around Christmas to Easter to create long cool river swimming pools. A lifeguard is on duty in the afternoon most days during summer at these pools in Centenary Park Bright and River Reserve Porepunkah. A children’s paddling pool on the river banks nearby give the whole family a chance to enjoy the water. Other natural river holes in the area are a favourite with locals and the more adventurous visitors but care need to taken at all times along the rivers.
A heated indoor pool is also available all year at the Bright Sports Centre in Gavan St (Gt Alpine Rd)
BOATING
For those that want to troll for fish from their “tinny” a trip to Lake Buffalo, Rocky Valley Dam or Mt Beauty pondage is always worth a try. If water skiing is your sport Lake Buffalo has facilities for this.
