ATTRACTIONS

For those interested in antiques and second hand or collectables Bright is a delight.

For those who enjoy getting lost in a maze or mini golf the Bright area has you in mind

If you enjoy the market scene Bright has a small monthly market on the third Saturday of each month in Railway Avenue and some very extensive markets down the main street of Bright in January (early January and Australia Day Weekend), Easter, Bright Autumn Festival Gala Day and Melbourne Cup Weekend.

Bright is renowned for quality agricultural produce grown in the cool climate valleys and visitors can visit farms and purchase chestnuts, walnuts, hazelnuts, apples, lavender, roses, berries plus beer and wine all grown from the fertile valley soils.

Animals also thrive in the Bright area so why not visit the deer, emu and alpaca farms or buy some trout or salmon from the trout farm.

And for those who just enjoy sitting in the sun with a coffee and cake Bright has cafes, many with outdoor seating for summer and cosy inside areas for winter, that will accommodate all tastes.

 MUSEUMS

The local Bright Museum is in the heritage listed old Bright Railway Station.  The museum also has rolling stock typical of that used on the old Ovens Valley Railway.

The museum covers railway history, gold mining history and also covers the social history of the area along with local family histories and a photographic collection.

A large number of Chinese miners worked in the gold fileds and the museum has a reconstructed Chinese Joss House based on the one destroyed in the Buckland Valley , and a collection of artefacts from Chinese Miners.

The Museum is open every Sunday afternoon (2pm - 4pm) except from Mid June to early September. During the summer, Easter and September school holidays and festivals the museum is open on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday afternoons.

The museum can also be opened at other times by prior arrangement with the secretary at kadams@tadaust.org.au

To see the history of tobacco & gold you can also visit the privately run Gold Museum and Tobacco Museum in Bright.
